urge incontinence and bladder leak treatment

Neuromodulation: Overactive Bladder Treatment

Are you tired of dealing with frequent trips to the bathroom? If you are suffering from overactive bladder or other related issues, undergoing neuromodulation may be the solution you need. At Northwest Ohio Center for Urogynecology Women’s Health in Perrysburg, Ohio, we proudly provide the latest, state-of-the-art treatments for overactive bladder. These treatments allow you to regain control over your life while taking care of the source of your health concerns.

An Effective Overactive Bladder Treatment

Treating your overactive bladder does not mean that you require surgery. Percutaneous (or Posterior) tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) is one office based form of neuromodulation used to treat overactive bladder (OAB). This new technology can effectively reduce or eliminate urinary urgency, urinary frequency, and urge incontinence (bladder leaks).

A second minimally invasive form of neuromodulation offered for not only OAB, but also for fecal urgency and incontinence, is Interstim.

What is InterStim Therapy for Overactive Bladder?

Our Perrysburg urogynecology team now offers InterStim therapy – an excellent, minimally invasive treatment for those living with bladder concerns. If you have tried other therapies or medications, and have failed to see results for an “overactive bladder,” urge incontinence (bladder leaks), or fecal incontinence (leaking bowels), Interstim neuromodulation may be right for you.

Interstim neuromodulation therapy is performed through a pacemaker connected to the pelvic floor. The tiny pacemaker sends electrical impulses to help communication between the brain and the nerves that control the overactive bladder or bowel.

While other therapies focus on the bladder muscles, InterStim Neuromodulation therapy targets the nerve impulses that cause the problem. By targeting the specific nerves that control your bladder, this treatment focuses on the source of the issue – rather than just treating symptoms. Unlike PTNS which uses external therapy and requires multiple office visits, Interstim is more of a long term solution making use of an internal pacemaker for the bladder.
